Project E.M.P.O.W.E.R. is the National Philanthropy of Omicron Epsilon Pi Sorority, Incorporated which is a program designed by the women of Omicron Epsilon Pi?that focuses our community service endeavors on five areas identified as problematic within our communities.? These five areas are the awareness and prevention of domestic violence, homelessness, and suicide; political and emotional support of LGBT parents and families; and alleviating and eradicating the discrimination faced by the LGBT community.? Nationally, all chapters within the organization volunteer with agencies that work in these specific areas.
While all members are actively involved in their community year-round, attention is focused during each month on a particular area of the E.M.P.O.W.E.R. program.? During February chapters within the organization create and implement a project designed to assist LGBT parents and families.? On or around May 11, Omicron Epsilon Pi?honors the life of Sakia Gunn through memorial, in turn drawing attention to the discrimination and cruelty targeted at members of the LGBT community. During National Suicide Prevention Week (September 9-15, 2008) each chapter works with a community partner to host or assist in hosting a suicide prevention seminar.? October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and each chapter collaborates with their respective Domestic Violence Center and provides direct services, hosts a fundraiser, or a seminar.? Lastly, in November (National Homelessness Month) each chapter works with their local homeless services provider.
